LSI Indicators

The LSI number at the bottom of the calculator can have three distinct colors. From low to high-LSI:

  • (> +0.30)  indicates an excessive CaCO3 saturation in your water. This is water that causes scale to form.
  • (0.00 – +0.30)The optimal LSI balance is in this range. The intended range ought to be this.
  • (< -0.30) Aggressive water can etch cement and harm appliances. It gets worse the lower one goes!

Pool water is balanced if the LSI Index falls between -0.3 and +0.3.

There is no impact on the pool or its equipment when the water in the pool is balanced. The pH, temperature, and alkalinity level are one of the other variables that you can easily adjust to help your LSI value get into the ideal range.

If the pool water’s LSI Index is less than -0.3, it is corrosive.

Pool water can disintegrate, etch, pit, and stain plumbing, grout, and walls.

  • LSI Declines with Increases in Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid)

You can increase your LSI value by adding baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, which are available at pool supply stores. To find the desired alkalinity value—55-105 ppm is the recommended range—use the calculator above.

If LSI Index is greater than +0.3 pool water is Scale Forming.

Excess minerals from the pool may settle on the surface and equipment. On the pool walls, scale typically takes the form of rough, white or light-colored blotches. It also sticks to the piping, filter system, and other items in the pool. Water flow can be restricted by scale, which lowers filtration efficiency and shortens filter runs.
